Tyrann Mathieu Comments On A Top Saints Leader
All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu will be fulfilling a lifelong dream now that he will be suiting up for the New Orleans Saints.
After playing for the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, and Kansas City Chiefs, the former LSU standout will be playing for the squad he grew up rooting for.
There will be a certain sense of pride for the New Orleans native as he takes the field for the first time in the regular season as a member of the Saints.
More importantly, he will help revitalize the team’s secondary together with Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Maye, and Paulson Adebo.
His efforts will help the Saints return to the playoffs after barely missing it last season.
But aside from doing his best for New Orleans, Mathieu is also giving props to their other stalwarts on defense.

Mathieu said, “We got the right leader in Demario Davis. Best I’ve been around to date and I’ve been around the best ever.”
The linebacker from Arkansas State has elevated his career after joining the Saints in 2018.
Since then, he has become a First-Team All-Pro in 2019 and a two-time Second-Team All-Pro (2020 and 2021).
Last season, Davis played 16 games and finished with 70 solo tackles, three sacks, and seven passes defended.
Saints Defense Has A Chance To Become Elite
As Mathieu and the secondary take care of the deep part of their defense, Davis and their linebackers will cover the short and intermediate passing routes.
However, they can also make life for opposing quarterbacks difficult with the likes of Cameron Jordan and Marcus Davenport up front.
Jordan finished with 12.5 sacks and two forced fumbles last season.
Meanwhile, Davenport had nine sacks and three forced fumbles.
Those two men will complete New Orleans’ multi-layer of options on defense.
