Shohei Ohtani may have put together the best single season of any player in baseball history.

In 2021, the two-way star earned American League MVP Honors with a historic season in which he hit 46 home runs.

The 2022 season was no exception for the 28-year-old.

On the mound, Ohtani won 15 games in 28 starts and posted a 2.33 ERA in 166 innings of work.

The right-hander also struck out 219 batters and posted a 1.01 WHIP.

At the plate, Ohtani hit for a .273 average, crushed 34 home runs and knocked in 95 runs, stole 11 bases, collected 30 doubles, and had 70 extra-base hits.

All of that was enough for the Los Angeles Angels two-way superstar to be named to both the All-MLB First Team and All-MLB Second Team.

Ohtani Receives Elite Honor

Ohtani was named to the top team as a pitcher, with Houston Astros slugger and fellow AL MVP finalist Yordan Alvarez being named to the team as a designated hitter.

The 28-year-old was given the nod for designated hitters on the second team.

Ohtani’s teammate, slugger and three-time AL MVP Mike Trout was also named to the first team.

Time and again, the baseball world is impressed by what Ohtani can do on both sides, pitching like a Cy Young candidate and hitting like an MVP.

There’s a reason as to why he’s referred to as “Shotime,” because that is simply what it is to fans and players who have a chance to witness his greatness firsthand.

Ohtani has emerged as a perennial MVP candidate and has quickly risen to the top of the list of superstars in all of baseball today.
