Red Sox Congratulate Their New Star On A WBC Title

Team Japan is on top of the world.

With their 3-2 win on Tuesday night over the defending champion United States, Japan secured their third World Baseball Classic title.

And a certain Boston Red Sox star got to experience the joy of a championship this spring.

Masataka Yoshida, who was signed during the offseason before Xander Bogaerts departed for the San Diego Padres, played a key role in Japan’s WBC championship run.

He hit a key three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Monday night in Japan’s semifinal matchup against Mexico.

On Twitter, the Red Sox congratulated their new star on his WBC title and expressed excitement to see him in a Sox uniform on Opening Day.

Yoshida was one of three key offensive additions for the Red Sox.

Though Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez were lost in free agency, Boston also added Justin Turner and Adam Duvall.

Yoshida however, was the biggest move in terms of improving their offense, and he sure had a Classic to remember, which should be encouraging for the Red Sox and their fans to see as they prepare for the start of the 2023 season.

Along with Yu Darvish, Lars Nootbaar, and Shohei Ohtani, Yoshida helped carry an elite Japan team all the way to the finish line.

Now, Opening Day is just over a week away, and soon Red Sox fans will get a chance to see their new star in action at Fenway Park for the first time after a strong WBC.
