‘Southern Charm’ Alum Thomas Ravenel Hospitalized After Breaking “7 Bones” and “Puncturing” His Lungs in Polo Accident
A recent polo accident left Southern Charm star Thomas Ravenel hospitalized with seven broken bones and punctured lungs.
After four days in the hospital, the politician took to Instagram earlier this week, where he shared a photo of himself in polo gear along with a caption explaining the scary accident.
“Out of commission for awhile. Just spent 4 days in the hospital. Had a polo accident,” he wrote. “Broke 7 bones and puncturing my lungs. But don’t worry. I’ll live. If, I don’t die. J/k. I’ll be back in 7 weeks.”
Ravenel added, “When they took the x-rays, they said, ‘You’ve broken these bones before.’ I was a bit surprised. Didn’t know broken bones left scars.”
The former reality star joined Southern Charm’s original cast in 2014 before leaving in 2018 at the end of the show’s fifth season. Bravo announced his exit not long after he was arrested and charged with assault and battery when his children’s nanny accused him of raping her, per People. He eventually pled guilty to third-degree assault and battery in 2019 and his 30-day prison sentence was reduced to a $500 fine and probation.
During his time on the show, he ran as an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate against Lindsey Graham, where he came in third place, earning a mere 3.9% of the vote.
Seven years before his 2014 loss, Ravenel served five months as South Carolina’s treasurer before he was indicted on federal cocaine distribution charges. After attending rehab and pleading guilty, he was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison in 2008.
Another large part of his storyline on the hit Bravo series followed his tumultuous relationship with ex-girlfriend Kathryn Dennis, who was only 21 when she met the then 50-year-old Ravenel. The former couple went on to have two children together before ultimately breaking up in 2016. Dennis — who remained on the series after Ravenel’s departure — has since confirmed that she will not return for Season 9.
