Joc Pederson diagnosed with concussion from wall collision; Vosler recalled

SAN FRANCISCO — Joc Pederson has been diagnosed with a concussion after colliding with the wall in left field during Thursday’s game against the Cubs.

Pederson was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Friday afternoon having woken up with a headache. He left Thursday’s game after hitting the wall trying to rob Patrick Wisdom’s home run in the seventh inning.

After the play on Thursday night, Giants athletic trainer Dave Groeschner noticed Pederson rubbing his head and took him out of the game after the seventh inning. Pederson said he had a headache that night that persisted into the morning.

This is Pederson’s second concussion during his MLB career. In 2017 with the Dodgers, he and Yasiel Puig collided while trying to make a play in the outfield, leaving Pederson with a strained neck that he says took away from the concussion pain and also took much longer to heal.

“Anytime you have multiple concussions over any period of time, I think you begin to take them more seriously,” manager Gabe Kapler said.

The Giants recalled infielder Jason Vosler, who was swinging the bat well in Sacramento, as the corresponding move.
