Body recovered from Charles River Monday afternoon, police say

A search for the victim began at 11:30 a.m. after callers reported seeing a man struggling in the water.

The body of a man was recovered from the Charles River Monday afternoon, State Police said in a statement. 

A search began at about 11:30 a.m. when witnesses reported seeing a man struggling in the water near Longfellow Bridge. Divers recovered the body at about 1:50 p.m., State Police Media Communications Officer Dave Procopio said in a statement. 

The search for the victim was conducted by State Police patrols, the State Police Dive Team and Marine Unit, Massachusetts Environmental Police, Boston Fire and Police Departments, Cambridge Fire Department, the Coast Guard, and Massport Fire Department, officials said. 

The State’s Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County are conducting the investigation into the death and are working to confirm the victim’s identity, Procopio said. A post-mortem examination will be done by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine a manner and cause of death. 

No further information was released.
