Baking instructor arrested on suspicion of bringing drugs into Redwood City jail

REDWOOD CITY — A baking instructor has been arrested on suspicion of bringing drugs into a Redwood City jail, authorities said.

The 41-year-old South San Francisco woman was contracted to teach culinary skills to nonviolent inmates at the Maple Street Correctional Center, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Lt. William Fogarty said in a statement.

A corrections officer spotted the instructor bringing drugs into the jail Tuesday, Fogarty said.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Fogarty said he could not reveal any other details about the woman’s actions and method for bringing drugs into the correctional facility.

Fogarty said the instructor was arrested on suspicion of bringing a controlled substance into a jail, possessing a controlled substance for sale and transporting a controlled substance for sale.
