Baker Mayfield, Kyle Trask make horrific throws at Bucs OTAs

If the action from OTAs indicates anything, the Buccaneers might be in a quarterback battle to see who’s less mediocre.

When Tom Brady retired in February, Tampa Bay added Baker Mayfield to its roster soon after, and now, the former first-overall pick is locked in a quarterback battle with third-year pro Kyle Trask for the No. 1 spot.

Unfortunately, early video from practices did not look promising for either signal-caller.

In the footage currently circulating online, Mayfield and Trask are seen dropping back without any pressure on them, and both miss their open targets on numerous occasions.

Even with some better tosses by the end of the video, social media ripped the pair for their wild inaccuracies at practice, with some already predicting a long season.

“Baker looks to be in regular season form,” one user sarcastically tweeted of Mayfield, who began his career with the Browns in 2018.

Another said his “10 year old grandson can throw better than them.”

With the not-so-dynamic duo missing their marks, one Twitter member joked the team would finish 2023 with the top pick in next year’s NFL Draft and select much-hyped USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

Despite having Brady at the helm, Tampa is coming off of a mediocre season in which it finished 8-9 atop the dismal NFC South.

As for Mayfield, the once-heralded Oklahoma star has fallen on hard times since his breakout 2020 campaign in Cleveland.

He was eventually traded to the Panthers last July but finished 2022 as a member of the Rams.

Mayfield had a 79.0 quarterback rating last year and was 2-8 behind center.

Trask, a 2021 second-round pick out of the University of Florida, threw just nine passes in 2022.
