Shazam! 2 Director ‘Done With Superheroes,’ Surprised by Reviews

Shazam! Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg has taken to Twitter to announce he is “definitely done with superheroes for now.”

The director created a thread of tweets outlining his feelings about the Shazam! sequel’s reviews, his thoughts on the two films, and comic online superhero discourse. Sandberg says that Fury of the Gods is the lowest Rotten Tomatoes critic score and highest audience score on the same film, that he thinks it’s a good film, and that he’s eager to return to directing horror as he’s “done with superheroes for now.”

He clarifies that he doesn’t regret making the Shazam! movies, as the experience has been challenging and rewarding and let him work with “some truly amazing people,” though the director states he will be happy to disconnect from the online discourse surrounding superheroes, which stressed him out.
