In the wake of the tragic demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020, the name of actress Rhea Chakraborty became synonymous with the controversy. Accusations, rumors, and online trolling followed her every step as she found herself in the eye of a storm.
However, Rhea Chakraborty has now broken her silence on the matter, shedding light on the tumultuous period that followed (her then-boyfriend) Sushant’s passing.
In the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Rhea Chakraborty and her family faced allegations of abetting the actor’s demise. The situation spiraled out of control as she found herself in the midst of a brutal media trial. She was not only subjected to harsh criticism but also labeled with derogatory names, such as ‘chudail’ or ‘witch,’ by supporters of the late actor.
At the recent India Today Conclave Mumbai 2023, Rhea Chakraborty addressed these allegations for the first time. She acknowledged the term ‘chudail’ with a sense of empowerment, stating,
“I kinda like the name chudail (witch). Back in the day, who was a witch? A witch was a woman who did not subscribe to patriarchal society, had her own way, or had her own opinion, which was against the popular opinion of men and patriarchal societies back then. Maybe I am that person. Maybe I am a chudail, maybe I know how to do black magic.”
She later clarified by adding,
“There is no black magic in this world, let me clear that.”
The actress then went on to speak about societal norms and gender stereotypes that have long plagued our society. Aside from that, Rhea highlighted the unfair societal expectations placed on women, especially when it comes to their roles in men’s lives.
Additionally, the Roadies judge shed light on the topic of mental health. She emphasized the need for a greater understanding of mental health issues in India.
