Every New & Returning Pokémon Added To Scarlet & Violet’s Teal Mask DLC

Summary
- The Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduces new and returning creatures, expanding the Pokédex in the Generation 9 games.
- Classic Pokémon like Ninetales, Mamoswine, and Chandelure are making a comeback, potentially changing the competitive meta.
- The new additions in the Teal Mask DLC add significant value to the game.
There are several new and returning creatures in the Teal Mask DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, all of which increase the Pokédex’s numbers in the Generation 9 games. The new DLC is the first part of the larger expansion pack called The Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero. The second DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is called The Indigo Disk, though it does not yet have a release date. The Gen 9 games for Nintendo Switch increased the National Dex count to over 1,000 creatures, and the new Teal Mask DLC is continuing the expansion by bringing new Pokémon for Trainers to catch.
Of course, other than new creatures, the first expansion for Scarlet and Violet is also bringing back classic Pokémon from previous generations. Creatures like Ninetales, Mamoswine, Dusknoir, Chandelure, Vikavolt, and Kommo-o are all making their way into Gen 9 games. Some of these creatures have incredible gameplay value and will change Scarlet and Violet’s competitive meta as well. Though Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk looks better than Teal Mask in terms of the overall creatures added, there is a lot of merit to the new additions in the first expansion. There are over 100 returning Pokémon with Teal Mask, though some are only obtainable through Pokémon HOME transfers.
All New Pokémon In Scarlet & Violet: Teal Mask DLC
There are a few new Pokémon being added to Scarlet and Violet’s Pokédex with the Teal Mask DLC. The main mascot for the expansion is Ogerpon, the Legendary creature that has ties to Kitakami Village and its surrounding area. There are also three highlighted Pokémon named Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti. These creatures compose a group called the Loyal Three. Additionally, there are other creatures like the previously announced Poltchageist and Dipplin, both of which are exclusive to Teal Mask. The table below, according to the information present on Serebii, lists all the new Pokémon added to Scarlet and Violet with the Teal Mask DLC:

In addition to this, the Teal Mask also has numerous returning Pokémon from various regions, from Generation 1’s Kanto to Generation 8’s Galar. These creatures expand the Pokédex in Scarlet and Violet with several fan favorites and other well-known Pokémon. Many of them had been officially announced prior to the release of the DLC, such as Milotic, Ninetales, and Vikavolt, but there are many more than were shown before. One of the main attractions is the return of the Sinnoh starters in Pokémon Teal Mask, though only one random creature is obtainable per save. To obtain all three starter families, players will have to breed and trade with other players.
A few other fantastic returning Pokémon with the first Gen 9 expansion are the Legendaries and Mythicals from the Sinnoh region. Creatures like Darkrai, Shaymin, Phione, and even Manaphy are now supported in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Obtaining them, however, is exclusive to Pokémon HOME transfers, as they are not catchable within Paldea or Kitakami. The new set of Pokémon also makes Gen 3’s Jirachi a supported Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, but it is also only obtainable via Pokémon HOME transfers. Although many other hard-to-catch Pokémon are not yet supported by the Gen 9 games, Scarlet and Violet are slowly becoming a hub to store these rare creatures.
In a sense, the games are becoming much like Gen 8’s Sword and Shield at the pinnacle of The Crown Tundra expansion. Beyond new and returning Pokémon, the first DLC for Scarlet and Violet is also introducing a new form of a returning creature. Gen 8’s Ursaluna is making a return with a new and exclusive form called Bloodmoon Ursaluna in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This special creature can only be obtained within the Teal Mask DLC so far and is exclusive to the Kitakami region. Players need to complete a few prerequisites to obtain it, but it may be the rarest creature in the entire expansion.
There are many returning Pokémon in the first expansion for the Gen 9 games, even if not all of them are part of the Kitakami Pokédex in the Pokémon Teal Mask DLC. The aforementioned Sinnoh Legendaries and Mythicals, for instance, are not required to complete the collection, mainly due to the fact that they are only obtainable from Pokémon HOME transfers. The table below, also following the information available on Serebii, lists all the returning Pokémon added to Scarlet and Violet’s Pokédex with the Teal Mask expansion:

The number of new and returning Pokémon in the Teal Mask DLC seems to fall slightly short of what is expected from a Pokémon game’s expansion – Gen 8’s Isle of Armor brought around the same number of new creatures, but many more returning Pokémon. Nevertheless, the additions to the Gen 9 Pokédex are very significant and possibly even game-changing, as there is a great deal of competitive value in the creatures added with its first DLC. This is only the first batch, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have yet to receive the Indigo Disk expansion.
