Best Azumarill Build For Tera Raids

The Aqua Rabbit Pokemon Azumarill thwarts Dragon-type Tera Raids in no time with its ability Huge Power, its unique typing, and access to Belly Drum.
The fan-favorite Aqua Rabbit, Azumarill, is one of the best Pokémon to take down Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Previous Generations of using Azumarill competitively consider both its Abilities and Typing to be very useful against any metagame. Furthermore, Azumarill’s vast move pool gives it access to great physical and special offensive sets. This Water-/Fairy-type Pokémon was highly sought after to take down the Dragon Tera Type Charizard Raids as most of Azumarill’s best moves, Play Rough and Liquidation, are super-effective.
Azumarill can be found in both versions of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, it can only be caught in one location, Casseroya Lake. Casseroya Lake is inhabited by Pokémon over level 50, so this area is typically accessed later on when a trainer can swim with their ride Pokémon. However, a trainer can obtain an Azumarill early on by evolving it. It is a three-tier evolution Pokémon that starts with Azurill, found in the Southern Region of Paldea, where the trainer starts their journey. When evolving Azurill into Marill, adventure with it or feed it Friendship gaining berries such as a Kelpsy Berry. Shortly after raising Marill to level 18, it will evolve into Azumarill.
Training Azumarill
For Azumarill to do its best while battling higher star-tier Tera Raid Pokémon, it is recommended to train it competitively. This means training Effort Values (EVs), Individual Values (IVs), and Natures to enhance Azumarill’s HP and Attack stats. The recommended EV spread for Azumarill is 252 HP and 252 Attack. Likewise, HP and Attack IVs should also be Hyper Trained in the town of Montenevera behind the Pokémon Center. Additionally, getting Nature Mints in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for Adamant Nature effects of +Attack/-Sp.Attack is ideal for Azumarill.
How To Buff Azumarill in Battle
Azumarill’s moves and stats correlate with what items and abilities trainers use on it for battle. Consider using the Shell Bell or Sitrus Berry in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for HP coverage. Additionally, when wanting to gain HP, Leftovers are also a smart gradual effect choice. However, according to the Pokemon Database, trainers will want to use a Shell Bell over Leftovers on Azumarill because of how much damage Azumarill deals. For defensive buffs, Assault Vest can only be used if Azumarill does not run a move set with Belly Drum. However, Belly Drum is not a naturally learned move on Azumarill, so trainers must use the Picnic move method by giving it a Mirror Herb in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with a Pokémon that has that move. Alternatively, instead of giving Azumarill more Attack stats with the Huge Power ability, the move Thick Fat is also beneficial to trainers wanting Azumarill with more longevity.
Azumarill Battle Strategy
Azumarill’s potential to one-hit knock out an opponent in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raids is very likely when paired against a Pokémon it is super-effective against. Therefore, it should either be sent out with other Azumarills or with supporting Pokémon that can lower defense. On the first turn, begin the match by using Belly Drum; when Azumarill is at full HP and support Pokémon will lower the defense of the opposing Pokémon. If a Sitrus Berry has not been used yet, players should Heal Buff on the second turn now that Azumarill has maxed out the attack. Finally, on the third turn, attack the opposing Pokémon with a Play Rough or Liquidation for a boosted same-type attack bonus to finish the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Tera Raid easily.
